Can I get Child Tax Credits?
How much you are entitled to depends on if your children was born before the 6th of April 2017. As they capped how many children you can get Child Tax Credits for.
If you are entitled to Child Tax Credits, you will receive them for the following age of the child:
- Aged 16 or under (you can get benefit until the 31st of August after their 16th birthday)
- Under the age of 20 if they are in approved eduction or training
If you live in a an area that has implemented Universal Tax Credits, you can only claim Child Tax Credits if you have 3 or more children. With the exception if you or your partner are pension age.
How many children can I get Child Tax Credits for?
The number of children you can get Child Tax Credits for depends on if your children was born after the 6th of April 2017.
If all your children was born before the 6th of April 2017, you could be entitled to the child component of the Child Tax Credit benefit for all of your children. This is in addition to the basic family component that you would be awarded.
However, if any of your children was born after the 6th of April 2017. You would only get the child component for up to 2 children. You would still get awarded the family component, but only if at least one of your children was born before the 6th of April 2017.
